Valley Collaborative will provide 16 hours of in-depth training in the use of de-escalation techniques and physical restraint for up to 30 members of your staff. The 16 hour workshop offers practical and effective techniques to help teachers manage groups and individuals, to de-escalate students, and if necessary, safely physically restrain individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others.
Valley Collaborative will provide 8 hours of refresher training in the use of de-escalation techniques and physical restraint for up to thirty (30) members of your staff. This training is designed for staff who have completed the In-Depth training in the past.
Joseph Venskus Jr. is a Valley Collaborative employee who is a certified trainer in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), a system of physical restraint and student de- escalation. CPI emphasizes understanding the process by which a person moves from calm to crisis, and how to intervene effectively. Mr. Venskus holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Franklin Pierce College. He has worked in alternative education for sixteen years. Mr. Venskus is also a Safety Care certified instructor and is also trained as an ALICE instructor. He began his career as Head Child Care Counselor for the Harbor School in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He then moved on as a Crisis Intervention Specialist at the Lighthouse School in Chelmsford. Mr. Venskus has been with the Collaborative for the past eleven years.
