Our elementary ISN-APS Program provides services designed to meet the needs of elementary students diagnosed with Autism and/or students who need similar supports due to complex language delays, sensory or health issues. Additionally, these students may be exhibiting behavioral and learning challenges that make it difficult for them to be successful in their community school. We have the capability to cater to students with a range of cognitive abilities and language needs. Valley provides all students access to assistive technology as an appropriate tool as needed.
 
Social, Behavior and Communication Skills Development:
The philosophy of our social behavior and communication skills development is based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or Verbal Behavior (VB), incorporating sensory programs and alternative communication modalities (i.e. Picture Exchange, sign, technology, switches etc…).  All students have BCBA on their caseloads in order to provide function-based interventions with appropriate replacement responses. Generalization is extremely important and students are provided every opportunity to practice learned skills in a variety of environments. Check out our art, music, physical education and life skills program for the perfect place to generalize skills.
 
Curriculum:
Our curriculum is based upon the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core requirements. All students have individualized lesson plans based upon the ABLLS-R or VB-MAPP assessments. Students receive instruction in all academic areas with a focus on functionality of skills and learning building blocks. The elementary program utilizes a structured assessment system that ensures all students’ goals are individual and data is reviewed regularly. Students are then grouped in skill based small learning groups or taught new skills 1:1 for the best academic achievement possible. The curriculum utilizes a teaching approach based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB) techniques, natural environment teaching, discrete trials, Direct Instruction, task analysis, integrated therapy techniques and hands on experiences.
 
Teachers have dedicated professional development opportunities in VB and ABA techniques throughout the year in order to consult with leading professionals on specific cases.
